Richmond game show fans get it in the shorts

Now this might be a bit premature, but…

There are six game shows airing in first-run syndication this season.

  • Jeopardy!
  • Wheel of Fortune
  • Deal or No Deal
  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
  • Family Feud
  • Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

As best as I can tell right now, only two are airing on broadcast TV in Richmond.  Jeopardy! and Wheel are in their usual spots on WRIC.

WRIC is dropping Deal or No Deal from its 4pm weekday spot in favor of airing Oprah live at 4… as well as adding more news – with this move, WRIC, WTVR, and WWBT will all have news from 5:00-6:30pm.  Now really, Richmonders, is this area so exciting that we need 90 minutes of news from all three network affiliates every night?  Do I need to answer that?

WTVR dropped Millionaire before the 2008-09 season.

WRLH dropped Family Feud at some point during 2008-09 (perhaps when they flipped WRLH-DT2 to the ThisTV movie network?).

And nobody appears to have picked up Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader – although it will appear on CMT weeknights.

Well, WRLH-DT2 will carry two episodes each of Deal and 5th Grader on Tuesday nights (through MyNetworkTV).  That’s something, I guess.

But seriously… there’s room on Richmond TV for incessant courtroom shows, and every tacky 60-minute “talk” show programmers can find, but not for a few good game shows?

Bah.

If I find out that I missed a scheduling move, I’ll update.  🙂
