We’re down to 9… and it’s pretty clear that three of them (Megan, Scott, Matt) are pretty well going to have to sing their way out of the Bottom Three and hope that someone else sings themselves in. With the theme set as iTunes Downloads… anything is possible… so, back on Tuesday night… with the Osbornes’ soon-to-be-quickly-cancelled variety disaster looming at the end of this 85-minute extravaganza… and the judges’ sniping at ridiculous levels… THIS… is American Idol! *music cue*
Enough with the big intro for the judges and Seacrest already. Just start the damn show…
Anoop Desai – “Caught Up” (Usher) – Interesting. Good job, likeable, but I don’t know that it stands out enough for someone hitting leadoff… if any of the Risky Three throw in a blowaway performance, he could drop down…
Megan Joy – “Turn Your Lights Down Low” (Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill) – Not good placement for someone barely hanging on… Well, she’ll get the VFTW nomination almost immediately. I thought she was a better singer than this… the last few weeks have been one toneless train wreck after another. Someone’s going to have to really drop the ball for Megan to last another week.
Danny gets the Product Placement Red Zone spot. Does he mention his latest loss? And will he get flames on the Net if he does?
Danny Gokey – “What Hurts The Most” (Rascal Flatts) – OK. Give Danny a song he can get into… and you get a good performance. Nicely done, and he’s safe for another week.
Allison Iraheta – “Don’t Speak” (No Doubt) – And the guitar comes out… I give up. When does her album come out, and where can I buy it? I loved the performance, and while I still don’t think she can win, she’s really talented. She’s 16, lay off the endearingly goofy clothing choices.
Scott McIntyre – “Just The Way You Are” (Billy Joel) – Interesting. Not bad. But not a standout, either. Bottom Three material, unfortunately.
Matt Giraud – “You Found Me” (The Fray) – Another interesting version. Likeable, and the spot later in the show might help. But could still wind up in the Bottom Three.
Lil Rounds – “I Surrender” (Celine Dion) – Interesting song choice. Oh dear. Very shaky start… and while she showed some power, this was far from her best. Might just slip into the Bottom Three… it’ll be close.
And the pimp spots go to one guy who needs a boost, and one guy who probably doesn’t…
Adam Lambert – “Play That Funky Music” (Wild Cherry) – A little shrieky at times… but I’d say he found his vibe, as it were, this week. Entertaining… I liked it. He’s very safe. OK, I’ll say it. Who scripted Paula’s spontaneous comments this week?
Kris Allen – “Ain’t No Sunshine” (Bill Withers) – Nice way to finish the show. Really got the song, and gave an enjoyable performance. He’ll be back next week.
MY BOTTOM THREE: Megan
NO, REALLY, MY BOTTOM THREE: Megan, Scott, Lil
AMERICA’S BOTTOM THREE: Megan, Scott, Matt (big surprise, right?)
CHECK, PLEASE? Megan (for reals this time)
JUDGES’ SAVE POTENTIAL: Two words: none. (Had to get the joke in. Sorry, Kara.)
The Silly Little Osbournes Mistake is next. See you for the results show tomorrow night (9e/8c) with Lady Gaga, David Cook, and David Cook’s new video…
