A profitable week

It’s been a good week at Casa Robster.

Last Tuesday night, I went to see Weird Al Yankovic at the National here in Richmond.  As usual, I didn’t buy a ticket in advance — so at about 6:15, I’m waiting outside the theatre in the Will-Call/Box Office line.  A group walks by waving one of those Ticketmaster print-your-own tickets saying “we just want to get rid of this, one of our group didn’t show up… take it, it’s free”… I waited, but apparently everyone in front of me on the line was waiting for will-call… so as the first in line who didn’t have a ticket, I grabbed it.  In the few seconds it took for me to go from the box office line to the entrance line — the group disappeared… so even though I really did want to pay them… I couldn’t.  So I saved $32.50.

Then today, I went to the annual Hooters Beach Party at Colonial Downs — an excuse to both attend Colonial during the thoroughbred season and check out the Hooters Beach Party (duh).  Well, as usual, I couldn’t cash a bet worth a damn… twice, I bet an exacta to have my horses come in second and third (they don’t pay for that, unfortunately)… finally, on what I had already decided was my last race, I did another three-horse exacta box.

There’s something good about seeing the three horses you’ve wagered on, running 1-2-3, with a furlong to go, and nobody else even close.  It was just a matter of which two actually took the two spots… and to make it better, it was the two longer shots.  The $66 payoff covered all my losses for the day and then some.  And I got to check out the Hooters Beach Party. 🙂

So I’m up about $50 on my entertainment budget.  I’m sure I’ll go find something to blow the money on. 🙂

And my “at-home” vacation from WellPoint is about a week away.  Thank goodness, I really need it… 🙂
