This was the wrong week to be a TV fan

Wow.

In the course of a week, television (and, by extension, all of us) lost three strong voices.

Jim McKay passed away earlier this week.

His one-time colleague, sportscaster Charlie Jones, wrote a memorial to his friend in his blog on Monday.  Those will be his last words, as Charlie Jones passed away last night.

And today, the stunning news that the man who helped make sense of hanging chads (and whose statement that Obama had finally won his nomination is credited with helping drive the Clintons out of the race), NBC’s Tim Russert, passed away at his desk today in Washington.

That’s a hell of a lot of American history — politics and sports and more — gone in just a few days.

They will all be missed.
