Friday night: Blue Man Group. I’d only seen them once before (in their Orlando permanent show at Universal Studios), so I was interested to see the touring show. It was well worth it — a good (but not great) crowd mostly filled the floor and lower bowl at the Richmond Coliseum. And leave it to BMG to make the show interactive – you could text-enter a contest for backstage passes before the show, and even if you lost that, you got a BMG wallpaper for your cellphone. And, of course, they now have my email address. Seems like a fair trade. The soundtrack for the How To Be A Megastar Tour 2.1 goes on sale April 1. I pre-ordered. 🙂
Saturday: I had a bit of a choice after doing the radio show. I could go to U of R Stadium on a chilly, rainy night for soccer, or I could go to the Richmond Coliseum for hockey. I chose hockey. That may have been a mistake… the Renegades played — let’s be charitable — less than their best and lost 4-3 to the Twin City Cyclones. That result put TC in the playoffs and dropped Richmond to 4th in the league (meaning just one home game in their first playoff series instead of two). The way the Renegades played… um… there won’t be many more games to worry about. Meanwhile, at U of R, the Kickers beat DC United 3-0 in a friendly (exhibition) game. The Kickers’ season doesn’t start for another month, but the opportunity to get a game with DC the week before the MLS season started was too good for the Kickers to pass up. Interesting that a Kickers’ team that still has a month of pre-season practice ahead was able to beat United (of course, DC didn’t bring all of their regulars).
Easter Sunday: Got up early, pre-recorded the radio show, and I’m loafing today. 🙂 That’s always a good thing. I thought about going to see the Harlem Globetrotters, but three shows at the Big Brown Truck in three days might have been a bit much. But I have to throw some credit to the Coliseum’s support staff… they had to load in the Blue Man Group show early Friday, break it down starting around 11pm in order to turn the Coliseum over for an afternoon hockey game (there were actually 3 hockey games played yesterday), and then after hockey had to do another fast turnaround for today’s Globetrotters matinee. And on Easter weekend, no less.
And I get to sleep late tomorrow (yay) — I’m covering a mid-shift (11a-8p) for a vacationing co-worker.
Happy Easter… or whichever early-spring festival you’re celebrating this weekend. 🙂
